Thoughts On the 2005 race season

The 2005 old bird season was very successful season. We flew a total 217 bird in races from 100 to 600 miles.  In all near 8% of our birds entered either won the race or was in a diaploma postion.

Our greatest sucess was in the Midwest classic race 100 mile divsion. We placed 1st in the club, 7th in the division and 7th national.

Our disapointment was on the lond distance races. We weren't as competive as we usually are. The main reason was due to the high cost of gasoline.

The 2005 young birds was a major disapointment this year. Not only did we lose a lot of young birds. We were lucky if we could get a bird home from the race at all. We weren't the only ones losing birds. All members were reporting lose from 50% to 95% per race. The race season was concluded 1 week eary due to heavy losses

Weclome to the Hawkeye Racing Pigeon Loft.

This website is about the Sport Of Pigeon Racing and my accomplishment in the sport.
The sport of pigeon racing is like any other sport. You first have to be interest in the sport. You have to desire to do what it takes to be competive in this sport.

There are some basic thing you have to do. First build a loft to base on the number of bird you want to have.A 10x8x7 loft will hold about 70 bird based on 8 cubic ft per bird. You then can divide the loft into 2 sections. one for breeding and the other for flyers.
Next is the birds. The biggest question is always what strain is best? I suggest that you talk to member of that club and then draw your own conclusions.
Next are you loft surveys. Most club use a gps for plotting your loft postion. Some club charge for this service and some do not. The Cornhusker Invitational racing pigeon Club of Liclon Ne does not charge a new member for this service. A Saving of about $55.00 Dollars.

I been flying racing homers for most of thirty years. In that time I have won many races. In 1994 i moved for Sioux City Iowa to palmyra Ne which is about 15 miles east of Licloln Ne. Since that time I have won 27 races icluding the 2005 old birds races. Champion bird and Average speed also. In 2003 I recieved the first ever Au Elite Champion From the American Racing Pigeon Union. In order to recieve this award you must have a bird that has won 5 or more diaplomas and 2 from a distance of 375 miles or more and a total of 150 pts. The bird that recieved that award as won 7 diaplomas since 1999 from a distance of 100 miles to 400 miles.

I hope that this information might spark your interest in the sport. If you would like more information you can contact me at the following email. red_check@msn.com
